Union Square Holiday Cookie Tour
By Audrey Murray | Posted 12/5/2007
UNION SQUARE'S ANNUAL COOKIE tour offers two irresistible draws: homemade cookies and the chance to look around inside other people's house. Residents of this historic Baltimore neighborhood open their festively decorated homes to the public to celebrate the holiday season, and visitors get a chance to tour the restored and preserved Victorian-era homes in full Christmas regalia. And if you thought neighborhood associations were a pain in the ass, these residents have a Cookie Tour Committee, which sounds slightly ridiculous, but probably means that the decorations-and the cookies-are topnotch. One of the highlights is a tour of the H.L. Mencken House, former home of the famous Baltimore journalist, which is not normally open to the public. So come eat the cookies, admire the holiday décor, and don't get caught snooping around in the medicine cabinet.
