Phyllis Van Meerhaeghe
(10/22/1946 - 11/11/2010)
Phyllis was a longtime resident of Union Square and a genuine star in our constellation of neighbors. She was the Union Square Association Treasurer for more than a decade. She was a key organizer in the Union Square Christmas Cookie Tour for more than 20 years, and many remember her raising money by serving beer at the Sowebo Arts Festival. Phyllis also organized the much-loved and long-running Union Square Progressive Dinner. Phyllis will be missed and remembered.

Quoted from Facebook post by Phyllis' sisters, Ginny & Valerie:
Phyllis... at peace. Phyllis passed away today, 11/11/10 @9:15 am. We were with her and told her all the things to express your love to her, and we played her music from her Ipod on her pillow. We have met fantastic friends here and can't thank them enough for all the support. She will be missed, but know just how much each and everyone of you meant to her. She will be laid to rest on Cape Cod next to our mother. Bradley-Ashton funeral home will handle her safe travels to go to the Cape, a place she always felt at peace. Ginny & Valerie

We regret to announce the passing of the Soweboarts, Inc., Board of Directors Treasurer, Phyllis Van Meerhaeghe, on Thursday, November 11, 2010. She was a very respected and trusted member of our organization who will be sorely missed. Along with keeping the finances in meticulous order, you could find her volunteering at the Sowebo Festival selling wine or baking appetizers in the kitchen for the members appreciation dinner. She was also a talented quilter.

Originally from Michigan, she was a long-time resident of Union Square in Baltimore City, Maryland. She will be laid to rest in Cape Cod, MA, next to her mother. You may read more and add condolences on her obituary page.
