Outside of the "square" we know blight and vacants are an issue in the Union Square neighborhood. It has been well-documented that vacant and blighted property in our community can unravel the quality of life for our us and our neighbors. This leads to an increase of crime and other social ills.

There is some new legislation that might be able to help.

The Community Law Center (CLC) is supporting amendments to the Community Bill of Rights law in this year’s Legislative Session that will make it easier for neighbors to take action against nuisance properties in their communities.

The center is asking communities to support Senate Bill 130 and House Bill 365 by writing to your State Senator and Representative in support of these bills. Find yours here!

The Community Law Center is also having a community meeting at the Conference Room of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland (4 East University Parkway, 21218) on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 6 – 8 PM.
